OUR VISION
Gereja Kristen Pelita is a ministry of FOCUS – the Fellowship of Overseas Christian University Students. Unique to the ministry of FOCUS is its vision to bring the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to International or overseas students in order to grow a community of spiritually mature, theologically minded, and ministry equipped men and women who will take the same gospel with them to grow God’s kingdom elsewhere – whether in Sydney, their countries of origin, or to the end of the earth. Under God’s generous hand, over its 25+ years at UNSW, FOCUS has sent hundreds of students away better equipped to grow His kingdom elsewhere. And under God’s hand we pray that the ministry of FOCUS may continue to do this for many years to come.
Prior to 2008, Pelita existed as a collection of Bible study groups that met on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Many from Pelita also attended and were members of a Sunday FOCUS church made up of a mix of overseas students from different parts of the world.
In 2008, however, FOCUS expanded to four different congregations – one of which is a mainly Indonesian student church called Gereja Kristen Pelita. It did this is to further increase its ministry to overseas students at UNSW by creating churches that are more accessible and attractive (whilst of course continuing to maintain a faithful Biblical ministry) in order to send out more people with the gospel.
It is our prayer and vision that through Gereja Kristen Pelita many Indonesian men and women will have their hearts changed by God’s Spirit to live no longer for themselves but be compelled by his love to go into all the world (and especially back to Indonesia) as Jesus’ disciples.
